Oprah's Harpo Radio Names New GM

Oprah Winfrey's, Harpo Radio, has named veteran radio executive John Gehron as its General Manager.


In his new role, Gehron will oversee operations and programming for XM Satellite Radio’s lifestyle talk channel “Oprah & Friends,” which launches in September 2006.

“I’m delighted to be joining the team at Harpo,” commented Gehron. “I look forward to building upon their successful track record of developing the highest level of quality entertainment, featuring unique and dynamic personalities.”

With more than 35 years of industry experience, Gehron joins Harpo Radio from Clear Channel Radio, where he served as Regional VP/Market Manager of seven Chicago radio stations.

Prior to Clear Channel Radio, Gehron was Co-COO/American Radio Systems, where he helped build a company of 100 radio stations in 20 markets. He previously served for four years as SVP for CBS Radio.

“John has a well deserved reputation as one of the most admired and innovative executives in the radio business,” said Harpo Productions president Tim Bennett. “He brings an extraordinary level of programming experience and creativity to this position”

Oprah & Friends, broadcasting from Chicago, will include programming hosted by popular personalities from The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Oprah magazine such as Bob Greene, Dr. Robin Smith, Marianne Williamson, Nate Berkus, and a weekly radio show with Gayle Kinig and Oprah Winfrey.
